About this experience
Schedule
- —Meet at Sengen Park and Start the Tour
- —Explore Jigokudani (Duration: Approx. 150 mins)Jigokudani, formed by volcanic steam eruptions, is a crater valley with an area equivalent to 2.8 Koshien Stadiums. Around 1 ton of hot spring water gushes out daily, with steam so thick in some areas that visibility is limited. Its "hellish" appearance inspired its name, meaning "Hell Valley."
- —Well-Maintained Walking TrailsThe area features safe, well-maintained trails, making it accessible even for those with less physical confidence. However, be cautious near the central hot spring pools, as the high-temperature geysers are fenced off for safety.
- —Tessen Pond (Tessen-ike)At the farthest point of the trail lies Tessen Pond, a geyser that periodically erupts with boiling water. Watch as the water bubbles and boils, creating a fascinating sight.
- —Jigokudani Overlook
- —Oyunuma & OkunoyuBoth Oyunuma and Okunoyu are explosion craters of Mt. Hiyoriyama. Oyunuma, shaped like a gourd, has sulfur springs at its bottom reaching 130°C, with surface temperatures around 50°C. Okunoyu, with a surface temperature of 85°C, resembles a boiling cauldron, showcasing the raw power of the earth.
- —Natural Footbath at Oyunuma RiverRelax with a natural footbath in the hot spring river flowing from Oyunuma. Surrounded by nature's sounds—rustling trees, birdsong, and the gentle breeze—this is a truly special experience.
- —The Tour Concludes at Sengen Park
