I initially signed up for the sun-dried bamboo, but after seeing the materials, I wanted to make it with the textured bamboo instead. They kindly agreed to the change for an additional 1,000 yen. I was a bit nervous, as it had been since elementary school since I last did any crafting, but with their guidance, I was able to complete it. After returning home and admiring my creation, I thought it turned out quite well, and I couldn't help but praise myself (laughs). I was happy with it.

While making it, I realized I should have chosen a bit more bamboo and had a clearer image of the final product in mind, which is something I need to reflect on. I also learned valuable points about how to carve and what to look for when viewing a tea scoop, which was a great takeaway.

There were no other customers, so I received one-on-one instruction. I thought that the process of working with bamboo before carving it requires a lot of effort and time. It was a great experience. I would like to come again.

We participated as a couple.
After spending about two hours making our tea scoops, we are already using them at home.
We also gave them our own names, which deepens our affection for them.
Thank you for your attentive guidance.
I would like to participate again when I visit Kyoto.

I never thought I could make my own tea scoop. There were times when I struggled along the way, and I received help with the final touches, but it turned out beautifully. By making it myself, my perspective on tea scoops has changed. I'm looking forward to seeing it during tea ceremonies and gatherings. I want to make another one as well.

Recently, I've had more opportunities to lightly touch upon the tea ceremony, and I came across this experience menu, so I quickly signed up. On the day of the event, I was lucky enough to be the only participant. I had a one-on-one session with a supportive and skillful instructor for over two hours of "tea scoop and me" time.

There were various types of bamboo materials, including those with sesame-like patterns and soot bamboo, and it was really enjoyable to choose while admiring the naturally formed patterns.

Once I started carving, things didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped. I faced continuous challenges, such as carving unevenly and panicking when I over-carved certain areas while trying to fix them. However, by quietly persevering and doing it myself, it felt like a mini life experience, almost meditative, and I really got into it.

When I finished, I became more forgiving of the slight distortions that had bothered me before, and I developed a much greater affection for my tea scoop than the one I bought on Amazon. Now, I use my tea scoop to prepare my tea every morning.

Next time I go to Kyoto, I want to try making one with a different type of bamboo!

I also bought a tube to store the tea scoop, so I plan to enjoy making one each time and labeling it in my own way.

P.S. There are also the Rakubijutsukan and Seimei Shrine nearby, making it a nice location for a sightseeing plan.

First, I selected my favorite tea scoop from a variety of bamboo options and gradually carved it with a knife. It seemed difficult at first, but the instructor was very kind and taught me patiently, making the process really enjoyable! After that, I used sandpaper to refine the shape, and I ended up with my favorite tea scoop. I would love to make another one!

I carved a tea scoop from bamboo using a small knife.
I chose my favorite bamboo and slowly carved it little by little, but it was quite challenging!
Under careful guidance, I was able to enjoy the process.
Even the slightly uneven parts of my one-of-a-kind tea scoop that I made myself give me a sense of attachment.

I wasn't sure how to use the knife at first, but the instructor was very kind and taught me patiently. They helped me with the difficult parts, and I was able to make my favorite tea scoop. It became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

Making a tea scoop for the first time, I carved it mindlessly, and two hours flew by in no time. There were some challenging parts (the joints) that made me break out in a cold sweat, but the staff provided careful guidance, and I ended up with a great finish.
