  6. *Introduction to Sensei Matsuda Tatsunori*
With 59 years of martial arts experience, Sensei Matsuda holds the prestigious rank of Hanshi 9th Dan. He began his training in 1965 (Showa 40) under renowned masters Shigeru Nakamura, Takehito Nakamura, and Seikichi Odo.
  7. About Okinawan Kenpo
Okinawan Kenpo is a traditional martial art focused on real combat effectiveness.
It emphasizes internal body control and timing over brute strength, using posture and balance to deliver powerful strikes.
  8. Differences from Mainland Karate
Unlike sport-style karate commonly practiced on the mainland, Okinawan Kenpo emphasizes real-world effectiveness and precise body mechanics.
  9. Hands-On Experience in Okinawan Kenpo
Try basic forms and movements as you experience the full-body techniques of Okinawan Kenpo.
  10. Introduction and Practice of Kobudo

  11. Explanation of Ryukyu Culture and History
Learn about the cultural background of kobudo, including how everyday tools evolved into martial weapons.
  12. Photo Session and Changing
Wrap up with a commemorative photo in your karate gi before changing and finishing the experience on-site.

My friend and I had a great time at the Okinawa Kenpo Karate Dojo. As beginners with little to no experience in karate, we found the sensei who facilitated the class to be very patient while teaching us the fundamentals of the art.

We booked the appointment a few weeks in advance through the Veltra website and were able to pay the fee ahead of time. You can rent a “gi” on site for 1,000 JPY in cash per set.

We booked the appointment a few weeks in advance through the Veltra website and were able to pay the fee ahead of time. You can rent a “gi” on site for 1,000 JPY in cash per set.

The location was also easy to find. We used Google Maps to locate the dojo, and it took us straight to the exact spot in Nago. If you go as a group, you should definitely carpool because the parking lot for the dojo is limited.

Make sure to be present & have fun. After our session they took pictures of us with different weapons and poses.

Overall, It was a beginner-friendly experience that we would recommend to people of all ages, regardless of their familiarity with karate. We were honored to be taught by Sensei Matsuda Tatsunori and to experience the beauty of traditional Okinawan karate.
